Today we were outside working in the flower beds and we heard this song getting louder: it was the ice cream truck playing “Don’t worry, be happy”. You started to dance! When it finally turned the corner of our street, we went there to get some ice cream: you had some ice cream sandwich with Daddy and then shared Klondike with vovô. We’ll see if you will remember that the music means ice cream the next time around.

Not an adventurous eater
We keep trying to feed you new things but you usually refuse everything we offer. So different from a couple of months ago when you pointed to our food and wanted to try everything. Your dad made yummy strawberry pancakes for breakfast and we were trying to get you to try them – you wouldn’t open your mouth, turned your head around from side to side, cried, and FINALLY you ate a piece. And immediately picked up the other piece that we put on the table in front of you and put it in your mouth. I can’t imagine when we have to give you something that is not nearly as good as pancakes…

Piu piu piu
Every time we go to the yard (and you want to go there ALL THE TIME), I point out the trees, the grass, the sky, the plants, the flowers, and of course, the eventual birds flying around. When that happens, I say “passarinho” (bird) and then make the sound a bird makes: “piu piu piu”. Now every time you see a bird, you immediately say “piu piu piu”.

Humming a song
You were playing with your phone toy, which plays a song everytime you press some specific buttons (not sure which ones, seems kind of random). The song started playing and you were humming along!
-
eogati
You keep repeating this “word”: eogati, eogati, eogati. We were trying to understand what you were saying – then it finally clicked: I always point at Gato and say “é o Gato” (it’s Gato) and you were repeating the whole thing together “éogáti”. The confusing part is that you say that to many other things besides Gato, but when you pointed at him and said “éogáti” after me, we got it.

Sick September
This past month was the most difficult for you and for us. The first week of the month you started running a fever and we thought it was because of the MMR vaccine. The fever didn’t go away after 3 days and you were cranky, we took you to the doctor and he said you had a tonsil infection. A few days later, still not better, we took you back and this time it was an ear infection. We started giving you antibiotics. Still a week later you were not better and we took you back – another ear infection, new antibiotics. Now that we finish with the antibiotics you started running a fever again last Saturday and then again on Sunday – we took you to the doctor on Monday and they said the ears are fine and were not sure what is wrong this time. We think it’s teething, but we can’t see any teeth so far. It has been a month full of Tylenol, Motrin, 2 antibiotics and a lot of waking up at night and crying. We are all tired and cranky, hopefully your teeth will cut through soon and everything will be back to normal.

Mango juice
After you fell in love with cashew juice, I decided to give you mango juice. Sure enough, you loved it too. I guess you have a thing for tropical fruits? Or maybe you just decided that you like juice now, we’ll see…

Avre
I took you to the backyard at the end of the day like we have been doing for a while. We walked out and you kept saying “Avre, avre, avre” and I didn’t realize at first that you were pointing to the tree while saying that. Sure enough, you were trying to say “arvore” (tree) while pointing at the tree. You love going near the trees and touching the leaves, you always point at them so we can take you close enough to do that.
