  • Dearest friend

We were in the car coming home after school. You were talking about playing with your friend Alice. I asked:
    – Is Alice your dearest friend?
    – No.
    – No? Who is your dearest friend then?
    – Mamae.
    Awwwww.

  • School and Friends

This is your third week at school. Last week was unusual because of a long holiday, so you only had to go for 3 days. You are doing very well, the teachers say you are improving every day and participating more. They also mentioned they have no communication problems with you, so as we suspected, your English is much better than we think. You still say you don’t want to go to school though, every morning (it started on the Friday of the first week) but once you are there, you are fine. You cry a bit when we arrive, and then a minute later you already stopped and started playing with Miss Rachel or your friends. You like Miss Nicole, who is the assistant teacher a lot too. When I pick you up every day you cry when you see me, and say “Mommy, mommy” and ask me to hold you and take you home, says goodbye to everybody and “see you tomorrow”. Daddy went to pick you up yesterday and you didn’t cry when you saw him, I wonder why!

Today when I was dropping you off your friend JoJo came and gave you a hug right away, while Kenya and Shiaman (not sure how to spell her name, your little Korean friend who started about the same time as you) were running to the playground gate to open it for you, calling your name. Miss Rachel said they were waiting for you. I guess they are your first “close friends”.

  • There are actually 5 teeth

So I was able to count your new teeth today and surprise, surprise – there are 5 of them. 3 on the top, 2 on the bottom!

  • Waking up

You woke up saying “Daddy, mamãe, (v)bobó, (v)bobô, papa, nona”. So funny!

  • Walking on our shoes

Can’t remember when you tried to wear your daddy’s shoes for the first time. Some time last month. Now you decided to do it again, wearing my red flats that you love. You were actually able to walk a little bit wearing them, it was cute. We took some pictures, and the other funny thing is that you were holding a potato, that you had just stolen from the pantry after saying “batata”.

  • Sapateando

When you dance, you usually don’t move your feet. I was dancing with you this morning and you were watching my feet the whole time. Then later in the day you started dancing moving your feet, a mix of marching, irish dance, tap dance, it’s very funny. We say “sapateia” and you start dancing like that. You love to dance, can’t really hear a song without dancing, even when you are sitting down or laying down you move your body anyway.

  • The Coffee Maker

Your vovó and vovô always have a cup of coffee around 5 PM every day. You absolutely love the noise of the water going through the coffee and dripping inside of the coffee pot. Every time they start getting the coffee maker ready you request to be picked up and go near it to watch. And you make a noise with your mouth like the sound of the coffee maker. You recognize the word coffee now and every time someone says they are going to make coffee, you immediately start making the sound. Daddy was able to catch that in video today, it’s quite funny.

  • Banana story

We were standing in the kitchen and I asked vovó if you were saying “banana” yet. You heard the word and immediately started pointing to the bananas in the fruit basket. You pointed at Daddy asking him to get you one. He gave you one but didn’t peel it (because it was close to your dinner time). Then you looked at the banana and told Daddy “abre” (open it). We all laughed and ended up letting you eat some of the banana (actually a bit more than half of it).

  • CIO Night 2

Put you in bed around 9pm. You slept until 1:30-ish, made very little noise and went back to sleep, or maybe you were partially awake (on and off) till around 2:30am, then you slept until 6:30am. Didn’t seem like you were going to fall back asleep completely so we got you up at 7am. Seems to be working pretty well.

  • CIO

So, even though we said we’d never do it, we decided we had to.

You started crying at 10:15pm, stopped around 10:24pm.
Then a tiny more at 10:33pm for probably less than a minute.
    Some more at 10:38pm

That was surprisingly less painful that we expected. Very happy too because we hate letting you cry (hence why we waited SO LONG to try this method, but nothing else was working).

I hope you still love us.

Overnight you woke up at 12:40-something, 1:45-ish, 4:45-ish and 7:45am.
However, I just connected the clock we were using and it was still set to Pacific time (though, I of course set the time correctly, it communicated with the satellites and adjusted itself), so we’re not sure which of those numbers are PST or CST.
