Fortune Cookie
Today, at the end of mamae’s birthday dinner, you had a small piece of a fortune cookie. Not sure you cared for it very much.

New foods
This past week you had: cow’s milk (Ninho), yogurt (Ninho Soleil & Danoninho), ice cream (flocos), cake, grilled cheese sandwich, churrasco (beef, chicken and garlic bread, which you loved) and Brazilian pumpkin.

Rice & Beans
I cooked rice, beans and ground beef Brazilian style for you today. I’m hoping that rice and beans will become your everyday food like they were for me when I was growing up. I mashed everything and tried to feed you but you kept pushing it out of your mouth. I think you didn’t like the texture more than anything, since you are used to purees. I tried again at dinner, just the rice and ground beef, and the same thing happened. Then I mixed rice and ground beef in your jarred baby food and you ate it that way. We’ll have to keep adding rice and beans to your baby food until you can get used to it and we can drop the baby food.

New foods
This past weekend you tried a bunch of new foods, and pretty much liked everything: guacamole, cheese (shredded, yellow, not sure what type), beans, lemon, bread and vanilla ice cream. You already liked avocado and had vanilla ice cream before, so guacamole and some more ice cream were a given. The cheese was the new thing, and you couldn’t stop eating it. The beans were OK, you were not that crazy about them. The lemon you kept trying, making funny faces, and then you finally decided it wasn’t that good. You had a bite of bread that your grandpa gave you and you seemed to like it, but wasn’t asking for more like you did with the cheese.

props: allowing you to eat
props, as your mom coined them, are anything safe for you to have while eating. it started with a plastic (round) container for nuts. it expanded to all the tupperware in the house, recyclables like our juice bottles (specially the tops), the metal lids for you baby food.
the props distract you and change you from a spaz to a busy, mouth open, eating baby. its magic!
spinning them helps. opening them helps. putting on inside another helps. all my tricks to get you to eat your meals.

Spaghetti with Cheese
So we gave you some 9 month old food, though I don’t think you liked it much.
How can an italian not like spaghetti with cheese? (I didn’t try it so maybe it does suck). -
Sour stuff, mmm
Yesterday I was feeding you dinner, you were done eating your chicken-potato-broccoli soup and turning your face away from the spoon. Then we got a jar of apples and apricots, I put the first spoonfull in your mouth and you started opening your mouth for the next spoonfull faster than I could feed you! You love that stuff, so I tasted it to see what was so good about it and – YUCK, it’s fairly sour! Daddy was laughing saying you take after him, and that’s for sure…

Chicken, yum
Today you had chicken for the first time. It was completely mashed in your puree with sweet potatoes, spinach and carrots, but it was there. You seemed to like it. No enthusiastic response like the Peach Banana Oatmeal jar and the Apples and Blueberries jar received, but we already know that you are a sweet tooth.
