We added meat to your potato-carrot puree today. Seasoned with a little bit of garlic and onion, cooked in the olive oil and then pureed with your vegetables. You didn’t want to eat it. We’re not sure if it’s just because you haven’t been eating much these days or if you didn’t like the meat flavor. We’ll see.

No Winter Squash
Seems you don’t like winter squash. Tried twice and both times you ate about 3 spoons and that was it. Guess we won’t buy that anymore. (I agree, not very good stuff).

It’s green, it’s broccoli
We mixed broccoli in your carrot – potato puree today. You made a funny face at first but once you got past the first shock, you ate normally. You really looked forward to your bananas for dessert, it’s definitely one of your favorites.

Bananarama
You tried bananas for the first time today. It was after you had your carrot and potatoes puree, so we mashed just a little bit for dessert, and you loved it. We ended up having to mash some more because you were really going for the spoon.

After pears, peas
We tried to give you peas mixed with your carrot and potatoes puree today but you didn’t seem to like them very much. You ate a few spoonfulls and then started refusing to eat more. Then we offered pears and you ate the entire jar!

Fruit of the day, Pear
You tried pears today. After you ate pretty much the entire plate of carrots and potatoes puree, we gave you some pears (baby food from the jar). You made some funny faces but you ate a pretty good amount. So far you seem to be enjoying food quite a bit.

Starting with…Apples
So we started giving you real food today. After a lot of research on websites and books, we ended up deciding to start with Apples. What we gathered from all the things we read was: it really doesn’t matter. Babies in Brazil start drinking orange juice in the bottle when they are only 3 months old and start eating a medley of pureed vegetables right away, so we figure it’s a cultural choice rather than a medical reason.
We gave you applesauce the tradicional way, rubbing a spoon on the apple, and you opened your mouth and tried to swallow the spoon right away. You were going for the spoon and quickly figure out how to swallow it. We also offered the sippy cup with water, and you tried to drink from it like you drink from a bottle, so it obviously spilled more water down your face and neck than you could actually drink.
At least you seemed to have enjoyed the new experience! We’ll see how you are going to like sweet potatoes next.
