  • Letter to Daddy (Happy Father’s Day)

    Dear Daddy,

When I was born, I loved cuddling with you and sleeping on your chest all day long. You always had the magic hand to comfort me when I was upset. You bounced me for hours in the middle of the night when I couldn’t go back to sleep. It was funny to see you falling asleep first. We had a lot of good times dancing while you sang some old school R&B because I didn’t want to go to bed. I didn’t like that you don’t let me watch your big TV, you know better than anyone how bad it is to be TV-deprived! I will grow up and make a home theater even bigger than yours!

Now that I am a big girl, I like playing with you (that means climbing on you) and laughing with you every day. I also love splashing you while you give me a bath. I will do this while I can get away with it. It’s great that you get up with me every morning and feed me breakfast; you always have magic Tupperware to entertain me. I will give you kisses every now and then, not too many because I want you to beg for more and hug me a lot. But I will make the kitty face mostly for you!

When I wake up at night, please give me a bottle so I can get back to sleep. I know I shouldn’t need a bottle, but I’m a hungry girl! Sorry I don’t go to bed early enough so you can play WOW, but I have yours and mommy’s genes, so I can’t do anything about that. You said many times with that weird voice “Julia, I am your father”, so yeah, I’m your daughter and can’t go to bed at 7 PM!

We have to get out more, go for walks and to the pool, and when I’m older you can teach me how to play basketball. But you have to promise that you won’t make me play any little league, you know how annoying that is.

I love you and happy first Father’s day,

    Julia
(farting while giving you this letter)

  • 10 months!

You turned 10 months today, wow. You are a big girl, playing by yourself, doesn’t need our help to get a toy or to go anywhere. You crawl, climb, get up and down, grab whatever you want. You stand by yourself, balancing, while holding a toy with both hands. You want to run, even though you don’t know how to walk yet. You take our hands and lead us around, I bet that you could walk by yourself if you let go of our hands.

You can drink from a cup by yourself, you rather drink directly from a cup instead of using the sippy cup (but you always end up wanting to put your hand inside of whatever cup you have). You have been eating 2 or 3 jars of food every meal. I have been trying to change your food to a more chewy consistency but you don’t like that very much. Still waiting for your teeth to come out.

You wave goodbye when you feel like it, you know what to do with your hand but we are not sure you understand when to do it yet. You talk in your own language, making lots of different sounds. We believe you are calling the “ventilador” (ceiling fan) by “do-do”.

You splash water everywhere while Daddy gives you a bath. You are getting harder and harder to put to sleep and every night you decide it’s time to play with your toys after nursing for a little bit in the dark. You have been going to bed around 9 PM, which is much later than what we would like. But you have our genes after all…we are all night owls in this house.

  • Bye bye (tchau tchau)

You started waving goodbye to the ceiling fan. You open and close your hand in the tradicional baby way of waving goodbye, while looking at the fan. We say tchau, tchau instead of bye bye though. I wonder if you think that’s the way of telling the fan to start moving.

  • Little traveler

We just flew back home after 3 days in White Plains, NY. You had a hard time and we don’t know why – you started crying when we got into the plane and didn’t stop until 1 hour later. It was terrible to watch you scream and not be able to figure out what was bothering you, we suspect it was the pressure in your ears but you never had a problem with that before…

You have been to Michigan for Christmas, then White Plains, NY in February; Nashville, TN in March; then Austin, TX also in March; and now White Plains again. And we are going to Brazil in August, for your first birthday.

  • 9 month stats

You had your 9 month old appointment and the new doctor told us that you are doing very well. You’re 19lbs3oz and 28”, and hit all the milestones for your age. He is not concerned that you don’t have any teeth yet, he said he will worry when you are 15 months old – until then, it’s fine. You had a couple of shots and a blood test to measure iron levels, which are very good (probably thanks to your iron fortified cereal breakfast every morning).

  • Crawling for real!

You just crawled for real towards daddy! He was sitting on the floor with his laptop on the center table and you were playing on your blanket. Then you decided to go where he was and crawled your way there! Gato was under the table too but you didn’t even bother to go to him. Good job!

  • Standing in the crib

You woke up from a nap today and when we got into your room to pick you up, you were standing inside of the crib holding the sides, waiting for us to get there. So cute! I guess it’s time to lower the crib mattress again…

  • Kisses

Today you started giving kisses – although you are just playing with your mouth making those kissing sounds, not knowing they are kisses 😉 We look at you and blow you some kisses and you start making the same thing, just for fun. So cute!

  • Trying to whistle

You heard your grandpa and grandma whistling and decided to do the same. It’s quite funny to see you blowing air and putting your mouth in the right position, you even make some noise every now and then.

  • Sour stuff, mmm

Yesterday I was feeding you dinner, you were done eating your chicken-potato-broccoli soup and turning your face away from the spoon. Then we got a jar of apples and apricots, I put the first spoonfull in your mouth and you started opening your mouth for the next spoonfull faster than I could feed you! You love that stuff, so I tasted it to see what was so good about it and – YUCK, it’s fairly sour! Daddy was laughing saying you take after him, and that’s for sure…
