  • Da-da-da

Yesterday you started saying da-da-da-da, mixed with other sounds. But we can clearly hear the da-da-da sound in the middle of the babbling. Even your uncle heard you on the phone. We are trying to make you say da-da to daddy, we’ll see how that goes.

  • Sitting – and getting there

About a week ago you found out how to get into sitting position by yourself. You now play around, get into crawling mode, then get tired of it and back into sitting. Also you figured out how to roll around to get where you want – for example, to get closer to Gato you rolled a couple of times and then sat down, but once you finished your maneuver Gato was already gone – he figured your intention and left much quicker than you could get to him.

  • Who are those people? And this place?

We were wondering if you would be bothered by being in strange places or with strange people. Until very recently you didn’t seem to mind at all, always smiling at everybody. Last week you started showing some different reactions though – you cried when grandma took you to the bathroom at Target to change your diaper, she had to leave the bathroom because you couldn’t stop crying. Then today we went to a new friend’s house and when one of the people there welcomed you and held you (and you already met her before), you started crying and didn’t really feel comfortable until at least 20 minutes later. In the end you were playing and smiling and trying to eat your shoes, but the easy smile you always gave strangers seems to be gone – saved for the family and friends only.

  • You slept through the night!

Yesterday you started crying that you wanted to eat before 6 PM. We thought it was a bit early for dinner, but gave you food anyway. You ate an entire plate of potato, chicken, carrot and broccoli puree, then had an entire jar of banana apricot oatmeal for dessert, then nursed for a bit and slept. You were sleeping before 7 PM in my arms. At 8 PM we put you in your crib. Around midnight you woke up, your dad gave you a bottle and you were having a hard time falling back asleep, so he brought you to me in bed, I nursed you and you fell back asleep. He put you in your crib around 1 AM and you slept straight until 7 AM! WHOHOOOO! It was the first night we all slept 6 hours straight since you were born! Good job, now we hope you keep it up!

  • You are in love with ceiling fans

Since we moved to Austin you have fell in love with ceiling fans. Of course, you had never seen a ceiling fan before, so you were very curious about those things hanging from the ceilings in every room you go into. Every time you look at them we say “that’s a fan” (in Portuguese – “é o ventilador”). We recently noticed that if we ask you “where’s the fan?” (“cadê o ventilador?”) you look up and find the nearest fan. So cute!

  • Kitty face

You started making a funny face now that we call kitty face. You wrinkle your nose and squint your eyes, making a fsssss noise. Very funny!

  • Chicken, yum

Today you had chicken for the first time. It was completely mashed in your puree with sweet potatoes, spinach and carrots, but it was there. You seemed to like it. No enthusiastic response like the Peach Banana Oatmeal jar and the Apples and Blueberries jar received, but we already know that you are a sweet tooth.

  • Little steps

Last week you started doing small steps when someone is holding you. You can “walk” around 5 steps this way before you get tired or decides you don’t want to walk any more. It’s very cute!

  • You found your tongue

And you decided to stick it out just for fun. You spent the day exploring your new found ability of sticking your tongue out, it’s hilarious.

  • Teeth? Weather?

Since we moved to Austin you haven’t been eating as well as you were in Seattle. We’re not sure if it’s because of the weather change or if your teeth are finally going to come out. We’re waiting (anxiously) for you to be back to normal – happily eating your meals.
