  • Apples, mmmmmm

You have been eating half an apple each time. I guess you really like it!

  • Starting with…Apples

So we started giving you real food today. After a lot of research on websites and books, we ended up deciding to start with Apples. What we gathered from all the things we read was: it really doesn’t matter. Babies in Brazil start drinking orange juice in the bottle when they are only 3 months old and start eating a medley of pureed vegetables right away, so we figure it’s a cultural choice rather than a medical reason.

We gave you applesauce the tradicional way, rubbing a spoon on the apple, and you opened your mouth and tried to swallow the spoon right away. You were going for the spoon and quickly figure out how to swallow it. We also offered the sippy cup with water, and you tried to drink from it like you drink from a bottle, so it obviously spilled more water down your face and neck than you could actually drink.

At least you seemed to have enjoyed the new experience! We’ll see how you are going to like sweet potatoes next.

  • 5 months!

You turned 5 months today, time is going really fast. There’s no doctor visit this month, so we won’t know how much you grew. We can see your 6 months clothes getting really tight, you started wearing some 6-9 months clothes last month. You have discovered new laughs and sounds, and has been using them a lot. You are sitting by yourself a little better every day, but you still get angry when we try to make you roll over. We can’t figure out why, since we know you can do it. You can hold your head very high up and does a lot of mini pushups when on your tummy. You also try to move around while on your stomach, so you rotate your body inch by inch to look at different things.

  • A cold that won’t go away

I took you to the Pediatrician this morning because you have had a cold for a month. It’s a mild cold that come and goes, when we think you are back to normal your nose gets stuffy again. Since there are so many people around with pneumonia, we thought it would be better to check and make sure your lungs are clear. We saw a different doctor and you were very nice to her, smiling the whole time. She said you just have a common cold and that you probably have been catching different viruses one after the other. You were also weighed (but with your clothes on) – 16lbs!

  • You can sit by yourself!

You started sitting by yourself today. You can balance for quite a bit before you fall to the sides. It’s funny to watch. Sometimes you even put your hand on the floor to help.

  • Sleeping Beauty

Last night you slept from 11 PM to 5:30 AM, wow! We were shocked! I woke up at 5:30 AM because you were making some noises, and your daddy checked what time it was. To our surprise, you slept 6h30 hours straight! And just two days ago (on your 4th month birthday) you slept from 10 PM to 4 AM. Hopefully this is a new trend 😉

  • 4 months

You are 4 months old today. We took you to the Pediatrician for another round of shots and to check on your growth / development. You weighted 14lbs13oz and measured 24 inches long. Dr. Howson said you’re doing great! You were in a great mood, smiling and responding to the physical examination very well, you just got upset when the nurse gave you the shots. You cried for a little bit, nursed and was already sleeping on your carseat when we left. Your next appointment is in February, you will be turning 6 months old then and we’ll talk all about food.

  • Your first cold

And we’re not talking about the weather, unfortunately. Your dad was sick a couple of weeks ago with a sore throat and cold symptons. Then last Monday I got sick. Your grandparents arrived from Brazil on Thursday and got sick too. Now you finally got sick too. So far you just have a runny nose and a cough that comes and goes but doesn’t seem to bother you. Let’s hope you don’t get as sick as we all got!

  • Another accident

During the night you scratched yourself badly on the nose. You woke up in the middle of the night screaming, we ran to your bedroom and when we saw your face we understood the reason to such strong crying: a big bloody scratch on your nose. Your nails are not even very long yet, but I guess one of them was sharp enough to do the damage. Then I tried to cut the guilty nail in the morning and I’m still not sure about how it happened, but I cut a bit of skin close to the nail instead. You didn’t even cry or flinch, but the cut was bleeding non stop for a while. Your clothes got blood all over, your toys, you looked like you went to war with the blood in your hand and clothes and the big bloody scratch on your nose. 🙁

  • Finding your feet

You just started looking at your feet, wondering what those things are for 😉 You try to touch them when you are sitting down playing and stare at them during bath time. How long until you put one in your mouth?
