We mixed broccoli in your carrot – potato puree today. You made a funny face at first but once you got past the first shock, you ate normally. You really looked forward to your bananas for dessert, it’s definitely one of your favorites.

Bananarama
You tried bananas for the first time today. It was after you had your carrot and potatoes puree, so we mashed just a little bit for dessert, and you loved it. We ended up having to mash some more because you were really going for the spoon.

After pears, peas
We tried to give you peas mixed with your carrot and potatoes puree today but you didn’t seem to like them very much. You ate a few spoonfulls and then started refusing to eat more. Then we offered pears and you ate the entire jar!

Fruit of the day, Pear
You tried pears today. After you ate pretty much the entire plate of carrots and potatoes puree, we gave you some pears (baby food from the jar). You made some funny faces but you ate a pretty good amount. So far you seem to be enjoying food quite a bit.

LOL
You were laughing so hard today, your grandma was playing with you and you were just sitting there and cracking up…I made a video and then we showed it to you, and you laughed even more. So cute!

Yum!
Today you had lunch “Brazilian style”: your grandma cooked sweet potatoes and carrots, seasoned with onions and a bit of oil and pureed everything. You loved it. You were happily going for the spoon, it was funny to watch.

Rolling and crawling, backwards
We were all sitting around you on the floor, I put you on your stomach to play for a bit. You started complaining as always and then you finally rolled over by yourself. Both me and your dad saw it and clapped and praised you for it. After a while you were there with grandma and you rolled a couple of times more. It seems you really learned! You also started trying to crawl, but you can’t really figure out how to do it, so you end up moving backwards. You get quite upset and whine a lot, I hope you can figure it out soon!

Vaccine? What?
We took you to the Pediatrician’s office so you could get the shot that was missing at your 6 month appointment. We got there, the nurse weighed you and told us to get ready for the shot. I was expecting you to start screaming like you always did, but this time you didn’t even flinch. I was shocked! You were just laying there, as if saying “what, mom, what’s the big deal?”

Starting with…Apples
So we started giving you real food today. After a lot of research on websites and books, we ended up deciding to start with Apples. What we gathered from all the things we read was: it really doesn’t matter. Babies in Brazil start drinking orange juice in the bottle when they are only 3 months old and start eating a medley of pureed vegetables right away, so we figure it’s a cultural choice rather than a medical reason.
We gave you applesauce the tradicional way, rubbing a spoon on the apple, and you opened your mouth and tried to swallow the spoon right away. You were going for the spoon and quickly figure out how to swallow it. We also offered the sippy cup with water, and you tried to drink from it like you drink from a bottle, so it obviously spilled more water down your face and neck than you could actually drink.
At least you seemed to have enjoyed the new experience! We’ll see how you are going to like sweet potatoes next.
