You finally seemed to enjoy having a bath. Today I filled up the bathtub so your entire body was underwater, and I held your head out while your grandma washed you. You had your eyes wide open and an expression of amusement (it could be from the fact that you peed on me and your grandma while we were undressing you). You didn’t cry, scream or even complained during the entire bath time nor while we dried you. You were making cute little conversation sounds when we dressed you. We combed your hair and you looked pretty content, then you finally had enough and cried that you wanted to eat. We hope all your future baths are like this one.

Pica-pau
We nicknamed you pica-pau (woodpecker) because when you wanted some breast milk, you would lean in and bounce back, just like a pica-pau.

bath #9
This was a mostly calm bath. A little crying.
Dr. Howsen said we could put you in more water (don’t need to worry about getting water in your ears) so I used 3 containers full tis time. I also set up the pump/shower/spray thing. That seemed to be fun/new for you.

1st month visit
Today you are 1 month old and we took you to the pediatrician to see how you’re doing. We knew you had gained a lot of weight (we could feel that in our arms!) and we noticed how much you had grown (your clothes are fitting much better now), but we were still surprised when she said the numbers: 9lbs11oz and 22 inches! 3lbs more than when you were born and 3 1/2 inches longer! Everything else is fine and you passed the “holding your head” test with flying colors. You also had the second shot of the hepatitis vaccine, which you hated, of course. And not to break the tradition, you peed on the scale again.

bath #8
Well, what did we do different this time so you didn’t scream almost nothing?
Mom says you missed me since today was the first day I went to work (I worked from home monday and tuesday).
I made the water a little warmer, maybe that helped.
Maybe because you’re almost 1 month old.

bath #7
Well, so much for a calm bath. Today julia screamed bloody murder during her quick bath. We did things the same as last time, but maybe she was hungry when started.

No yelling!
While you were eating today I was calling your Dad, who was on the first floor (we were on the second floor). I called his name one time loudly and you made an angry face, stopping to eat for a little bit and deciding if you were going to cry or not. You didn’t cry and resumed eating. Since your Dad didn’t answer I called again, louder, and proceeded to call your grandparents. You immediately stopped eating, got all red and cried really hard until I stopped calling them. You even had tears in your eyes! I was so surprised at your reaction, but of course I stopped yelling and calmed you down. You went back to your meal and I was shocked at your display of personality.

You already have your preferences
This week you started showing us when you want to be held upright instead of laying down. We went for a walk with you today and you cried every time we put you in the stroller, you wanted us to hold you upright the whole time and had your eyes wide open. You wanted to stay awake and look at everything around you. You were awake for a record time of 4 hours and 30 minutes!

Super fast growing nails
Early today we noticed you had a bad scratch close to your nose. We looked at your fingernails and surprise – they are very long (and sharp) again. We had no idea your nails would grow so much so fast, we have to trim them again. Until then, you’ll be back to wearing your safety mittens.

Bath #6
So this time, for whatever reason, Julia didn’t scream.
Water seemed about the same temp.
Maybe mommy had the right idea about closing the door so there wouldn’t be a draft.
She still cried when we took her out to dry her off.
But things went much smoother this time.
