  • At the Thai restaurant

Our friends Heliene and Emerson and their baby Nicholas asked if we would like to go to Typhoon, a thai restaurant in Redmond, so they could meet you. We were a little nervous about taking you to a restaurant but we said yes. You couldn’t have behaved better! You were awake most of the time, being passed from mommy’s lap to grandma’s to daddy’s. You drank a bottle and slept a little bit, sat in your carseat by daddy’s side and comfortably looked at everything around and smiled. We were out for 3 hours and you slept on our way home. If we knew you would always behave like this, we would go out a lot more 😉

  • Chit chat

We didn’t write down when it happened, but you have been able to say “ah-goo” and other similar sounds for a while (we know it was even before your 1 month birthday), but you have been chatting a lot for the past days. Your favorite place to start a conversation is the changing pad. We put you there to change your diaper and you immediately start making sounds, smiling and responding with more sounds when we talk to you. You get quite excited and move your arms and legs a lot, it’s so cute! Sometimes you stop eating to chat with mommy, even in the middle of the night. Maybe you will start talking early? The bets already started if your first word will be in English or Portuguese.

  • Tummy time

Today you got a little bit of tummy time for real: we put a blanket on the floor so you could stay flat on your tummy and use your arms to bring your upper body up. You did great, we used your Minnie ball toy to get your attention and make you look at a different direction following the sounds that it makes. You got tired very quickly and a little upset until we turned you so you could lay on your back. Before today you only got tummy time laying on your daddy’s chest, which is not as hard. Gato was very interested on your blanket, but he sat by the sidelines and didn’t step on it. We wonder when you will start noticing Gato…

  • Eye to eye

A couple of days ago you started focusing on people’s faces – now we can tell that you are looking at us rather than at the wall, the doors, windows or anything else around. You have been spending quite some time studying my face while you eat or your dad’s face when he changes your diaper, it’s amazing how you concentrate and all of a sudden gives us a big smile.

  • bath #10

You finally seemed to enjoy having a bath. Today I filled up the bathtub so your entire body was underwater, and I held your head out while your grandma washed you. You had your eyes wide open and an expression of amusement (it could be from the fact that you peed on me and your grandma while we were undressing you). You didn’t cry, scream or even complained during the entire bath time nor while we dried you. You were making cute little conversation sounds when we dressed you. We combed your hair and you looked pretty content, then you finally had enough and cried that you wanted to eat. We hope all your future baths are like this one.

  • 1st month visit

Today you are 1 month old and we took you to the pediatrician to see how you’re doing. We knew you had gained a lot of weight (we could feel that in our arms!) and we noticed how much you had grown (your clothes are fitting much better now), but we were still surprised when she said the numbers: 9lbs11oz and 22 inches! 3lbs more than when you were born and 3 1/2 inches longer! Everything else is fine and you passed the “holding your head” test with flying colors. You also had the second shot of the hepatitis vaccine, which you hated, of course. And not to break the tradition, you peed on the scale again.

  • No yelling!

While you were eating today I was calling your Dad, who was on the first floor (we were on the second floor). I called his name one time loudly and you made an angry face, stopping to eat for a little bit and deciding if you were going to cry or not. You didn’t cry and resumed eating. Since your Dad didn’t answer I called again, louder, and proceeded to call your grandparents. You immediately stopped eating, got all red and cried really hard until I stopped calling them. You even had tears in your eyes! I was so surprised at your reaction, but of course I stopped yelling and calmed you down. You went back to your meal and I was shocked at your display of personality.

  • You already have your preferences

This week you started showing us when you want to be held upright instead of laying down. We went for a walk with you today and you cried every time we put you in the stroller, you wanted us to hold you upright the whole time and had your eyes wide open. You wanted to stay awake and look at everything around you. You were awake for a record time of 4 hours and 30 minutes!

  • Super fast growing nails

Early today we noticed you had a bad scratch close to your nose. We looked at your fingernails and surprise – they are very long (and sharp) again. We had no idea your nails would grow so much so fast, we have to trim them again. Until then, you’ll be back to wearing your safety mittens.

  • Who would know a baby could be so noisy?

We’re still impressed at how noisy you are. Of course we expected you to cry, but you don’t cry a lot. You make a lot of little noises and squeaks all the time, even when you’re asleep. It’s cute, and we make the same noises back at you sometimes. But it’s hard to sleep when you’re around!
