  • 10 months!

You turned 10 months today, wow. You are a big girl, playing by yourself, doesn’t need our help to get a toy or to go anywhere. You crawl, climb, get up and down, grab whatever you want. You stand by yourself, balancing, while holding a toy with both hands. You want to run, even though you don’t know how to walk yet. You take our hands and lead us around, I bet that you could walk by yourself if you let go of our hands.

You can drink from a cup by yourself, you rather drink directly from a cup instead of using the sippy cup (but you always end up wanting to put your hand inside of whatever cup you have). You have been eating 2 or 3 jars of food every meal. I have been trying to change your food to a more chewy consistency but you don’t like that very much. Still waiting for your teeth to come out.

You wave goodbye when you feel like it, you know what to do with your hand but we are not sure you understand when to do it yet. You talk in your own language, making lots of different sounds. We believe you are calling the “ventilador” (ceiling fan) by “do-do”.

You splash water everywhere while Daddy gives you a bath. You are getting harder and harder to put to sleep and every night you decide it’s time to play with your toys after nursing for a little bit in the dark. You have been going to bed around 9 PM, which is much later than what we would like. But you have our genes after all…we are all night owls in this house.

  • Bye bye (tchau tchau)

You started waving goodbye to the ceiling fan. You open and close your hand in the tradicional baby way of waving goodbye, while looking at the fan. We say tchau, tchau instead of bye bye though. I wonder if you think that’s the way of telling the fan to start moving.

  • No nu na

Your favorite new sounds are no nu na (usually nonono or nonona).

When Nona (my mom) visited, I think you liked how Nona sounded so you started saying to. Seems you like to use it for a lot of things (hungry, this, that).

We say you’re telling yourself no.

I realized awhile ago that we tend to say “no” to you a lot (no, don’t touch that, no don’t eat that, etc), so its not too surprising you know/say this sound.

  • Independant Standing

Today you stood and balanced all by yourself (for 5? seconds).
Yesterday to did it as well. Though, once you were standing by yourself, you weren’t sure what to do next.

  • Many (assisted) steps

Mother’s day, you took 150 steps chasing Gato all around the apartment. You might have kept going, but Gato went into the kitchen and the tiles are not safe in there so I stopped you. Plus it was time to go to eat.

  • Crawling for real!

You just crawled for real towards daddy! He was sitting on the floor with his laptop on the center table and you were playing on your blanket. Then you decided to go where he was and crawled your way there! Gato was under the table too but you didn’t even bother to go to him. Good job!

  • Da-da-da

Yesterday you started saying da-da-da-da, mixed with other sounds. But we can clearly hear the da-da-da sound in the middle of the babbling. Even your uncle heard you on the phone. We are trying to make you say da-da to daddy, we’ll see how that goes.

  • Sitting – and getting there

About a week ago you found out how to get into sitting position by yourself. You now play around, get into crawling mode, then get tired of it and back into sitting. Also you figured out how to roll around to get where you want – for example, to get closer to Gato you rolled a couple of times and then sat down, but once you finished your maneuver Gato was already gone – he figured your intention and left much quicker than you could get to him.

  • Who are those people? And this place?

We were wondering if you would be bothered by being in strange places or with strange people. Until very recently you didn’t seem to mind at all, always smiling at everybody. Last week you started showing some different reactions though – you cried when grandma took you to the bathroom at Target to change your diaper, she had to leave the bathroom because you couldn’t stop crying. Then today we went to a new friend’s house and when one of the people there welcomed you and held you (and you already met her before), you started crying and didn’t really feel comfortable until at least 20 minutes later. In the end you were playing and smiling and trying to eat your shoes, but the easy smile you always gave strangers seems to be gone – saved for the family and friends only.

  • You slept through the night!

Yesterday you started crying that you wanted to eat before 6 PM. We thought it was a bit early for dinner, but gave you food anyway. You ate an entire plate of potato, chicken, carrot and broccoli puree, then had an entire jar of banana apricot oatmeal for dessert, then nursed for a bit and slept. You were sleeping before 7 PM in my arms. At 8 PM we put you in your crib. Around midnight you woke up, your dad gave you a bottle and you were having a hard time falling back asleep, so he brought you to me in bed, I nursed you and you fell back asleep. He put you in your crib around 1 AM and you slept straight until 7 AM! WHOHOOOO! It was the first night we all slept 6 hours straight since you were born! Good job, now we hope you keep it up!
