Since we moved to Austin you have fell in love with ceiling fans. Of course, you had never seen a ceiling fan before, so you were very curious about those things hanging from the ceilings in every room you go into. Every time you look at them we say “that’s a fan” (in Portuguese – “é o ventilador”). We recently noticed that if we ask you “where’s the fan?” (“cadê o ventilador?”) you look up and find the nearest fan. So cute!

Little steps
Last week you started doing small steps when someone is holding you. You can “walk” around 5 steps this way before you get tired or decides you don’t want to walk any more. It’s very cute!
-
Holding your bottle
You usually just play with the bottle if we let you grab it, but once and awhile you actually hold it and drink from it, all by yourself.
-
Please stand up
A couple of days ago, you were sitting on the couch with me and wanted to see what was going on behind me, so you grabbed my arm (and arm hair) and pulled yourself up to a standing position! Yeah (and ouch).
-
Creeping forward
After a few weeks of creeping backwards all over the place, today you lunged forward to try and grab your grandma’s clothes that were on top of the mattress. Good job!

Rolling and crawling, backwards
We were all sitting around you on the floor, I put you on your stomach to play for a bit. You started complaining as always and then you finally rolled over by yourself. Both me and your dad saw it and clapped and praised you for it. After a while you were there with grandma and you rolled a couple of times more. It seems you really learned! You also started trying to crawl, but you can’t really figure out how to do it, so you end up moving backwards. You get quite upset and whine a lot, I hope you can figure it out soon!

5 months!
You turned 5 months today, time is going really fast. There’s no doctor visit this month, so we won’t know how much you grew. We can see your 6 months clothes getting really tight, you started wearing some 6-9 months clothes last month. You have discovered new laughs and sounds, and has been using them a lot. You are sitting by yourself a little better every day, but you still get angry when we try to make you roll over. We can’t figure out why, since we know you can do it. You can hold your head very high up and does a lot of mini pushups when on your tummy. You also try to move around while on your stomach, so you rotate your body inch by inch to look at different things.

You can sit by yourself!
You started sitting by yourself today. You can balance for quite a bit before you fall to the sides. It’s funny to watch. Sometimes you even put your hand on the floor to help.

Finding your feet
You just started looking at your feet, wondering what those things are for 😉 You try to touch them when you are sitting down playing and stare at them during bath time. How long until you put one in your mouth?

You look even cuter
We finally got your ears pierced today. You look even cuter wearing your white gold ball earrings. We took you to Claire’s at Alderwood Mall (for the 3rd time, since the previous 2 times they sent us away saying you were not old enough or you needed your vaccination history with you) and the lady there marked your ears with purple ink, made us sign a bunch of papers saying we authorized them to pierce your ears and then your daddy held you on his lap while she used the machine to quickly pierce your ears. You cried very loudly and was out of breath for a minute on my arms, but when daddy came back after paying for the piercing you were already fine and smiling again. We walked out and you were just looking around, the piercing episode and earrings already forgotten. The store gave us a cleaning solution that we have to use 3 times a day to wipe your ears clean, and in 6 weeks we can change the earrings to the ones your aunt Helena sent from Brazil.
