  • Brushing your teeth

now that you have some teeth, we need to start brushing them. you weren’t very interested in the toothbrush, until I put it under the water. then, you wanted to use it so you could drink the water off of it. I was able to brush your gums and teeth, a little, though you mostly just chew on it.

I even got you to hold the toothbrush in your mouth.

  • Repeating syllabes

You love to talk – you talk in your own language all the time. We have noticed that you are incorporating syllabes of things we just said in your babbling. For example, if we say “chocolate” you start saying “choc-ba-ba-pause-da-da-pause-ba-ba”, or “gato” and you say “ga-ba-ba-pause-da-da-pause-ba-ba” and so on. You give your “words” different entonations so they sound like a phrase, although they are all made up words in a phrase.

  • Cashew juice

Every juice we have tried to give you, you have rejected. Apple, Pears, Orange, Grape, you name it. I was having dinner and drinking cashew juice. You pointed to the glass saying you wanted it. I offered the glass already expecting you to turn your head away after the first sip, and to my surprise, you kept drinking it! I would take the glass away and you pointed at it asking for more. You drank quite a bit of the cashew juice, you truly have Brazilian blood in your veins! 😉

  • MMR, you give me fever

At your 1 year appointment, you got your shots, including MMR. Seems that it (or one of the others) is giving you a fever. Wednesday, you had a 99.1 (+1) under your arm. Yesterday, you had 99.6, 100.1, 99.6 and today you had 100.8.

The nurses say its probably fine, but you feel SO much warmer today, so we don’t trust the reading we’re getting, so we’ll take you in to see the doctor.

  • Big breakfast

You had your first Sunday brunch today – scrambled eggs, yogurt, cheerios and grilled cheese sandwich. You ate quite a bit!

  • First haircut

Today we took you to your (overdue) first haircut. One of our friends recommended Cool Cuts for Kids, since they have lots of things to distract the kids while they are getting a haircut. We got there, you looked around happily until it was time for you to sit at the chair. It was a nice red car but you didn’t care – started crying immediately and wanted to get out at all cost. The lady was blowing bubbles, turned on the TV with the movie Cars, gave you stickers, but you didn’t even look. You just cried and clinged to mommy for dear life. I had to put you on my lap and then hold you while the hairdresser trimmed your bangs and overall hair while you moved your head non-stop. She had some skills. It was not the best haircut in the world but at least you didn’t get poked with the scissors, which seems quite the accomplishment. They usually take a polaroid picture to give it to the customers, but in your case, because of all the commotion, we ended up with no picture. They saved a lock of hair though…

  • Bad, bad day

You had a very bad day today: 1) your tooth cut through during the night; 2) when you got up you had a big bloody scratch between your eyes (you scratched yourself overnight because your nails are quite long, since you haven’t been cooperating with Daddy who has tried to cut them for days); 3) you were walking towards the office, tripped and hit your head on the door, making a huge bump in your forehead; we had to put ice on it but of course you screamed and tried to get away…add to it that you have been jet lagged and had your vaccines this week, and it has been a pretty rough week for you!

  • One more tooth

Finally the upper right front tooth that has been bothering you for over a week has cut through. This morning when you got up I could see the edge of it. Now you have 4 teeth!

  • 1 year old appointment

You had your 1 year old appointment today. This time you were at the Keep Austin Weird room, which had lots of colorful pictures on the walls, beads hanging from the light fixture, flowers and smiley faces all over the place (hippie room, Daddy said). You were a bit scared by Dr. Chang and it only got worse when he tried to examine you. You cried and cried, clinged to me and it sounded like he was killing you when he was looking inside of your ears and listening to your lungs. He gave you a Mickey Mouse sticker but you didn’t really care, you kept staring at him the whole time and didn’t want to go near him. You measured 21lbs (45%) and 30 1/4 inches (75-90%), and your head measurement was 45.8 cm (50-75%). All very good and you are developing great! You had 3 shots: the MMR, Chickenpox and Hepatitis A. You cried even before the nurse gave you the shot, but stopped shortly after.

  • Where are the people in these pictures

Your first whole day back from Brasil, you noticed the lack of people around.
Mamae said you were looking around, like you do when you hear me get home from work, then you started pointing at all the pictures.

You trying to tell us you miss them?
