  • Rice & Beans

I cooked rice, beans and ground beef Brazilian style for you today. I’m hoping that rice and beans will become your everyday food like they were for me when I was growing up. I mashed everything and tried to feed you but you kept pushing it out of your mouth. I think you didn’t like the texture more than anything, since you are used to purees. I tried again at dinner, just the rice and ground beef, and the same thing happened. Then I mixed rice and ground beef in your jarred baby food and you ate it that way. We’ll have to keep adding rice and beans to your baby food until you can get used to it and we can drop the baby food.

  • Self-feeding

We have been working on self-feeding for the past couple of weeks. I bought you some teething biscuits and puffs, so we put them on the table in front of you and show you that you have to pick them up and put them in your mouth. The first time you just pushed them all to the floor, without picking up any of them. Then you proceeded to smash them with your hand each time we tried to give them to you. Finally this week you started trying to bring them to your mouth and today I made a little video of you eating them all by yourself!

  • Daddy Pool Day

You went with me to the pool so mommy could work.

We had lots of fun. I thought we were getting too much sun, but I guess I was wrong. But I did burn my feet on the hot cement.

  • Look Where I Point

You are looking at things we point to.

Mommy pointed at Gato and you looked where she was pointing (instead of looking at her finger).

  • Having fun

We had a small party today, and a few friends came over with their kids. You were sleeping when they started to arrive, then you woke up with the noise and were a little surprised. Then you warmed up and was being passed from person to person, and next thing I know you were crawling with the other kids all over the living room and kitchen. They all got into your play fenced area, I didn’t even know 4-5 kids would fit in there. You had more fun playing with the door, which you didn’t know could open until today. It was nice to see you with the other kids, we have to get you some little friends in the neighborhood.

  • Birthday rehearsal

Your grandpa, grandma and aunts Rebecca and Alana bought you a birthday cake, candle, balloon and gifts, and we sang happy birthday to you complete with videotaping and photos! They are not going to be at your 1st birthday party in Brazil, so they made sure they celebrated with you while they were here visiting. You got some lovely gifts including a pink My Little Poney that became one of your favorite toys (you LOVE all the ribbons that make for the Poney hair). You didn’t understand what the candle was, we kept pointing it but you didn’t seem very interested. We sang in English and Portuguese a few times, good practice for your birthday party!

  • New foods

This past weekend you tried a bunch of new foods, and pretty much liked everything: guacamole, cheese (shredded, yellow, not sure what type), beans, lemon, bread and vanilla ice cream. You already liked avocado and had vanilla ice cream before, so guacamole and some more ice cream were a given. The cheese was the new thing, and you couldn’t stop eating it. The beans were OK, you were not that crazy about them. The lemon you kept trying, making funny faces, and then you finally decided it wasn’t that good. You had a bite of bread that your grandpa gave you and you seemed to like it, but wasn’t asking for more like you did with the cheese.

  • Loving the Viola

Your grandpa David brought his viola with him and was playing for you this morning. You were paying a lot of attention and seemed to enjoy it. After he was done playing he let you touch the strings, maybe you will want to learn some day.

  • Visitors!

Your grandpa David, grandma Sue and aunts Alana and Rebecca came to spend a week with us. They drove all the way from Michigan and arrived today. You were having dinner and once they arrived and sat at the table, you kept looking from person to person and wouldn’t eat anymore. You were a little surprised at first but after a while you were already being passed from person to person. This will be a busy week!

  • We can see your teeth

Your two bottom teeth are big enough now that we can see and photograph them. We took pictures today so your grandparents can see them. You look so cute!
